Information about the Flamstead area from 'UpMyStreet.com'.
This one is fairly easy to do.

 Cut and paste the following code into your site at the place where you want the image and text to appear

<A HREF="http://www.upmystreet.com/overview/index.php3?location1=al3+8" TARGET="_blank"><IMG SRC="images/upmystreet.gif" BORDER="0" WIDTH="195" HEIGHT="56" ALT="">Information about the Flamstead area from 'UpMyStreet.com'.</A>

• The important bit in this link is the query string on the end of the URL - '?location1=al3+8', this defines the location of the area to be searched in the UpMyStreet database 'al3+8' is the first part of my postcode. Replace this with the equivalent from your postcode and the name of your village in the text underneath and you are away!

5 day weather forecast for the Flamstead Area from the BBC.
This one is slightly more difficult.

 Cut and paste the following code into your site at the place where you want the image and text to appear

<A HREF="http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=1038&links" TARGET="_blank"><IMG SRC="images/clouds.jpg" BORDER="0" WIDTH="195" HEIGHT="129" ALT="">5 day weather forecast for the Flamstead Area from the BBC.</A>

 Change the text to read for your village name
 Find yourself a new image for the weather picture (you can use my clouds if you like)
 Visit the BBC weather site, enter your postcode into the 'UK 5 day forecast' text box and then make a note of the query string in the browser URL bar as the 5 day wether forecast appears in your brower.
 The bit to look for is '5day.shtml?id=1038&links' - this relates to AL3 8DJ, my post code, '5day.shtml?id=2606&links' relates to LU1 5RX, where my mum lives. It will be different for your post code, enter the new query string into the HTML on your site and away you go!

Things to do within easy reach of Flamstead from 'Sightseeing.co.uk'
About the same difficulty as the BBC weather link.

 Cut and paste the following code into your site at the place where you want the image and text to appear

<A HREF="http://www.sightseeing.co.uk/cgi/results.cgi?query_type=classification&start_row=0&search_number=1&classification
=Anything&location=al3+8dj&x=30&y=7" TARGET="_blank"><IMG SRC="images/sightseeing.gif" BORDER="0" WIDTH="195" HEIGHT="29" ALT="">Things to do within easy reach of Flamstead from 'Sightseeing.co.uk'</A>

 Visit the sightseeing.co.uk site and enter your postcode in the text box and press Go.
 Once the list of sightseeing events has appeared, cut and past the entire URL, including the query string, from the URL bar on your browser and replace the code in the above HTML.

Local information about Hertfordshire from the BBC
Easy Peasy

 Cut and paste the following code into your site at the place where you want the image and text to appear

<A HREF="http://www.bbc.co.uk/hertfordshire" TARGET="_blank"><IMG SRC="images/bbcbedshertsbucks.gif" BORDER="0" WIDTH="195" HEIGHT="21" ALT="">Local information about Hertfordshire from the BBC</A>

 Visit the BBC site and find the page relating to your county.
 Cut and past the page URL from the URL bar on your browser and replace the 'http://www.bbc.co.uk/hertfordshire' code in the above HTML.
 You will also need to download the graphic associated with your region and replace the Beds, Herts and Bucks one that I use.

Identify Satellites in the sky above Flamstead from 'Heavens-above.com'
Starting to get more complicated
(NB: Do this one before SkyandTelescope)

 Cut and paste the following code into your site at the place where you want the image and text to appear

<A HREF="javascript:heavensabove()"><IMG SRC="images/heavens-above.gif" BORDER="0" WIDTH="112" HEIGHT="60" ALT="">Identify Satellites in the sky above Flamstead from 'Heavens-above.com'</A>

 Cut and paste the following code into your site between the <HEAD> and </HEAD> tags

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
function heavensabove(){
w = window.open("heavensabove.html","satellite","menubar=no,height=500,width=700,
toobar=no,resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes");
}
</SCRIPT>

 Visit the heavens-above.com site and sign up as a user. Make a note of your user name and password. You will also need to make a note of the latitude and longitude values for your village for the Skyandtelescope link.
 Cut and paste the following code into a new blank HTML page, replace the user name and passwords with the one you registered with and save file as heavensabove.html

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
function heavensabove(){
document.satellites.submit();
}
</SCRIPT>
</HEAD>
<BODY onLoad="heavensabove();">

Please wait retrieving information......
<FORM NAME="satellites" ACTION="http://www.heavens-above.com/processlogon.asp" METHOD="POST">
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="UserName" VALUE="yourusername">
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="Password" VALUE="yourpassword">
</FORM>
</BODY>
</HTML>

 Thats it, if you did everything correctly it should work.

See what's in the Sky at night above Flamstead from 'SkyandTelescope.com'.
More complicated
(But if you managed the last one should be no problem)

 Cut and paste the following code into your site at the place where you want the image and text to appear

<A HREF="http://www.skyandtelescope.com" TARGET="_blank" onClick="skyandtelescope();return false;"><IMG SRC="images/moon.jpg" BORDER="0" WIDTH="195" HEIGHT="146" ALT="">See what's in the Sky at night above Flamstead from 'SkyandTelescope.com'.</A>

 Cut and paste the following code into your site between the <HEAD> and </HEAD> tags

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> function skyandtelescope(){
d = new Date();
mins = d.getMinutes();
mins = 10 * Math.round(mins / 10);
h = d.getHours();
if (mins == 60){h = h + 1; mins = 0;} ampm = "AM"; if (h >= 13){ampm = "PM"}
if (h ==12 && mins > 0){ampm ="PM";}
if (ampm == "PM"){h = h - 12}
y = d.getYear();
if (y < 1000) {y += 1900;}
mo = d.getMonth() + 1;
da = d.getDate();
addr = "http://skyandtelescope.com/observing/skychart/skychart.asp?lat=51.82&lng=-0.43&country=UK&timezone=0&datetime=" + y + "." + mo + "." + da + "at" + h + ":" + mins + ampm + "&caz=290&calt=17&displayOptions=111111101111&"; w = window.open(addr,"sandt","menubar=no,height=515,width=770,toobar=no,resizable=no");
}
</SCRIPT>

 The important bit in this code are the latitude and longitude values for your village. If you did the last one correctly you should have these vales from Heavens-above.com. Substitute those values in the above code. That's it, again if you did everything correctly, it should work. The Java Applet from SkyandTelescope takes a while to download, so be patient!

if (today_year < 2000){today_year = today_year + 1900;}
formated_date = today_day + "/" + mth[today_month] + "/" + today_year;
nearest.txtBeforeDate.value = formated_date;
document.nearest.submit();
}
</SCRIPT>
</HEAD>
<BODY onLoad="bloodcouk();">

</BODY>
</HTML>

 Thats it, if you did everything correctly it should work and hopefully a few more people will get along to donating blood.
